James Hickey
James Hickey was born on July 24, 1884 in Kilmeaden district ( Portlaw and Ballyduff) of County Waterford to David Hickey, a farmer and Ellen Burgess. See line 5 of the birth registration record below and a button to acesss the record in the Irish genealogy web site.
See below for the 1901 and 1911 census records for the family of David and Ellen Hickey.
According to the 1911 census, David and Ellen Hickey had 9 children: Michael, Richard, Alice, William, James, Nano, John, Mary, and Ellen. I found the birth Record for Alice from 1881, but she did not appear in either Census report. I noticed that James lived with the family in 1901, but not in 1911. Also notice that they lived in house 15 in Ballyduff, East in 1911 and house 37 in 1901.
One of the confusing aspects of these Census reports is the differences in the ages of the parents. The 1901 Census shows David as 52, indicating he was born in 1849 and it shows Ellen as 50, indicating she was born around 1851. But the 1911 Census lists David as 65 ( born in 1846) and Ellen as 66 ( born in 1845)? According to the 1911 census, they were married for 35 years ( 1876).
Also the 1911 Census says the parents cannot read while the 1901 Census says they can read and write.

I found the following 1911 Census Record showing Richard living with the Burgess family in the neighboring village of Gortaclade. He is listed as a relative, presumably living with Ellen's siblings or aunts and uncles, a household of elderly bachelors and spinsters.
And here is the same household from 1901. This time two other sisters are living with them and all are listed as not married.
Here is a YouTube of (perhaps) the school the Hickey kids attended.
Here are some other records I found of James Hickey's siblings and some death certificates that may be his parents, although the ages don't match up again.
The rest of this page is from James Hickey's life in the United States.
According to the 1930 US Census Record, James Hickey immigrated to the US in 1910.

I found James Hickey's draft registration records for both WWI and WWII. For some reason, he listed his birthday as August 15, 1887 in 1917 and August 6, 1884 in 1942. I had not realized someone as old as he was would have to register for the draft in the Second World War. In 1917, he lived on 44th street and worked as a railway conductor for Pittsburgh Railways. He lived on Race Street in 1942.
James Hickey became a naturalized US citizen in 1919. Here is a photo of the document.
Next I found the 1930 and 1940 Census reports for the Hickeys. It does show that James emigrated to the US in 1910 and Mary Connors emigrated in 1914.
